'Secret' Factory Restore for MobileMapper 10

Read this entire document prior to performing the Restore Operation!

This document describes how to restore the MobileMapper 10 receiver to the Factory Defaults. The restored state is actually a lower state than the unit is shipped from the factory. You will need to completely recover all software and settings.

The screen will need to be recalibrated, be prepared to mess around a bit.

All installed software (MobileMapper Field, ArcPad) will be deleted and will have to be reinstalled from scratch. This procedure is a LAST DITCH procedure to recover a receiver! (It takes me 20 minutes to completely configure a receiver and I have done it 50+ times.)

0. The Enter key described in this document is the round button in the center of the Arrow keys.

1. Turn unit all the way off: Push and hold the ON/OFF button, display shows "Power will be turn off and your data may be lost if not saved. Do you want to continue? Yes; No", then accept "Yes" by pressing the Enter button. The MM10 will turn all the way off.

2. With MM10 unit OFF, push and hold the top two center buttons. The will either be labeled 'F2' and 'F3' OR they will be labeled '-' and '-':

While holding both these buttons down, press the "ON/OFF" button.

3. The MM10 will boot and this screen will be displayed:

Click on the Up-Arrow Key to restore your unit! Any other key aborts this process.

4. Wait four-minutes while the progress bar moves to the right:

5. The receiver will reboot. DO NOT PUSH ANY BUTTONS, or click on the screen. After 3-4 minutes the MobileMapper 10 will turn OFF automatically.

6. After the MobileMapper turns off, click the ON/OFF button for a short-key-press, the unit will turn on again.

7. Turn unit all the way off: Push and hold the ON/OFF button, display shows "Power will be turn off and your data may be lost if not saved. Do you want to continue? Yes; No", then accept "Yes" by pressing the Enter button. The MM10 will turn all the way off.

8. After the unit boots, you will see this screen:

 Click on the screen.

9. Follow the onscreen instructions to recalibrate the touch screen.

10. Reload all software.

If the following links don't work, you can go to the Ashtech FTP site: ftp://ftp.ashtech.com and manually navigate to the correct folder and files.

You can download the latest GNSS Toolbox from: ftp://ftp.ashtech.com/Mobile%20Mapping/MobileMapper%2010/Firmware/

WARNING: When you do the factory-init, the font size on menus is large. I do not (yet) know how to fix this.
